Choosing the right pendant light finishes is a key specification decision. MOSS Objects offers six standard lacquered finishes for Emily, four stainless-based finishes for Kosmos, and five finishes for the Dune collection. The choice between them is a specification decision that affects how the luminaire reads in the space, how it relates to other architectural surfaces, and how it ages over time.

Emily — Six Lacquered Finishes

The six standard finishes for Emily are applied as a wet lacquer to 1mm steel sheet: Anthracite semi-matte, White semi-matte, Black high gloss, Gold tone, Copper tone, and Dark bronze tone. The distinction between semi-matte and high gloss is relevant under directed light sources: a high gloss finish will reflect the source, adding specular highlights to the shade; a semi-matte finish absorbs more light and reads as a flatter surface. Gold, Copper, and Dark bronze tone are warm-spectrum finishes that respond to the colour temperature of the light source. Under 2700K sources they deepen; under cooler sources they flatten. Anthracite and White behave more consistently across different light source temperatures. For open-plan spaces with mixed light sources, the more neutral finishes are the lower-risk specification choice.

Emily Oxid — Pre-Aged Steel

Emily Oxid uses pre-aged steel as its base material. The oxidation process is part of the material itself, not a surface coating. Each shade is therefore unique: the patterning of the surface cannot be replicated exactly between units. For projects where a consistent, controlled finish is required across multiple units, standard lacquered finishes are the appropriate choice. Oxid is suited to installations where material character and variation are part of the design intention.

Kosmos — Polished Stainless and Tone Options

The Kosmos frame finishes are applied to a hand-polished stainless steel substrate. Stainless Steel Polished — the base finish — is a high-reflectivity surface that responds strongly to the ambient light quality of the installation space. Gold Tone, Copper Tone, and Dark Bronze Tone are plated onto the polished stainless: they retain the reflective base material while adding a tonal shift. For installations in spaces with warm, diffused ambient light, the tone options read differently from spaces with high-contrast directional lighting. Physical samples reviewed under site conditions are the most reliable basis for selection.

Dune — Five Finishes Including Anodised Aluminium

Dune finishes are applied to an aluminium substrate. Silver Anodised and Silver Polished are the neutral options; Gold Tone, Copper Tone, and Dark Bronze Tone provide warmer alternatives. Anodising produces a finish that is integral to the material surface rather than a coating applied on top. For projects where long-term finish durability in high-traffic or high-humidity environments is a factor, anodised finishes offer advantages over lacquered surfaces. The aesthetic difference between Silver Anodised — which retains the slightly technical character of the aluminium — and Silver Polished — a smoother, more reflective surface — is best assessed by physical sample.

Custom Pendant Light Finishes

Custom finishes beyond the standard range are available for all collections on request. These typically require a minimum order and an extended lead time. For projects requiring a specific RAL colour, a proprietary finish match, or coordination with a bespoke architectural material, the studio can advise on what is achievable and at what production timeline.
