MOSS Objects handmade lighting production takes place at the studio in Berlin. Components — steel shades, aluminium modules, polished stainless frames, opal glass spheres — are produced by specialist suppliers working to MOSS Objects specifications. Final assembly, wiring, and quality control take place in Berlin before each order ships.

Component Production

Each collection draws on specialist production processes. Emily shades are formed from 1mm steel sheet and wet-lacquered by metalwork and surface finishing suppliers. Kosmos frames are bent from 6mm stainless steel round profiles and hand-polished before delivery to the studio. Dune aluminium modules are machined and finished — anodised or tone-plated — by aluminium fabrication specialists. The use of dedicated suppliers for each process allows MOSS Objects to source components to a quality level that would not be achievable in a generalist workshop. Materials and processes are selected for the specific demands of each collection.

Assembly in Berlin

At the Berlin studio, incoming components are checked against specification before assembly begins. For Emily, this involves verifying finish consistency across the shades for a given order and checking the canopy and cable hardware. For Kosmos, the polished stainless profiles are assembled with the glass spheres and the LED module — which also functions as the structural fixing between sphere and frame — is installed and tested. Dune modules are assembled into the specified configuration, wired, and tested for electrical continuity. The assembly stage is where the finished luminaire takes its final form.

Quality Control in Handmade Lighting Production

Quality control at MOSS Objects is carried out under controlled lighting conditions that approximate a warm residential or hospitality environment — not under the cool overhead fluorescent that is common in production facilities. This is relevant: finish defects, surface inconsistencies, and cable alignment issues that would be visible in the installed environment are more reliably detected under the right light source. Each luminaire is inspected for finish consistency, dimensional accuracy, electrical integrity, and packaging condition before it is cleared for shipping.

Packaging for Transit

MOSS Objects ships to clients internationally. Packaging is designed for the specific geometry of each collection: Emily shades are individually protected and grouped within custom carton configurations; Kosmos and Dune configurations — which can be physically large — are packed to allow efficient transit while protecting finish surfaces. For large commissions or international freight, MOSS Objects advises on packaging dimensions and weight for logistics planning. Shipping costs and options can be confirmed at the enquiry stage.

Post-Delivery Support

Once a commission ships, MOSS Objects remains the point of contact for technical queries. Installation instructions are included with every order; for complex configurations, rigging notes are included. In the event of damage in transit or a component issue after installation, the studio handles the query directly. There is no call centre or distributor layer in the after-sales process.
